Umu Coomber, PMHNP-BC

Umu Coomber is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner serving clients in Maryland and Virginia through secure telehealth appointments. She specializes in integrative mental health care that goes beyond symptom management — addressing the functional, metabolic, hormonal, nutritional, cognitive, and sexual health factors that shape how you think, feel, and function every day.

My approach combines evidence-based functional, nutritional, and metabolic psychiatry with whole-person, root-cause care — identifying and treating the underlying biological and psychological drivers of mental health conditions so clients can feel like themselves again.

Areas of Integrative Focus:

- Functional Metabolic Psychiatry — exploring how thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, inflammation, and metabolic health contribute to mood, energy, and cognition
- Weight Body Composition — addressing the bidirectional relationship between metabolic health, hormonal imbalances, medication side effects, and weight changes that affect mental well-being
- Hormonal Mental Health — evaluating how shifts in estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol influence anxiety, depression, fatigue, and cognitive function across the lifespan — from adolescence through menopause and beyond
- Nutritional Psychiatry — identifying nutrient deficiencies (iron, vitamin D, B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, omega-3s) and dietary patterns that impair neurotransmitter function and worsen psychiatric symptoms
- Sexual Health Wellness — treating sexual dysfunction, low libido, and intimacy concerns — including those caused by medications, hormonal changes, trauma, or relationship dynamics
- Cognitive ADHD Care — comprehensive evaluation and treatment of attention, executive function, brain fog, and cognitive decline — with attention to the metabolic and hormonal factors that are often overlooked
